Web Authoring with BeyondPress: Introduction

BeyondPress 4.0 lets you design Web pages the same way you design QuarkXPress documents -- in WYSIWYG view with access to powerful layout and design tools, typographic controls and other professional publishing tools.

When creating Web pages from scratch, press Command-Option-C to display the Document Content palette (View menu), and select Authoring Mode.

The Authoring section contains the following sections:

  • Layout begins with a few important layout considerations and reviews the Authoring Mode of the Document Content palette and setting Layout Preferences, which control how your pages are viewed in Web browsers.
  • Text reviews Cascading Style Sheets, Dynamic HTML, Font Name HTML tags, Bitstream's TrueDoc font technology, converting text to image and antialiasing, and using style sheet mapping.
  • Images covers converting your image files to GIF and JPEG formats, color palettes, text runaround and border controls, GIF transparency, and HTML tags.
  • Multimedia reviews adding Java applets, RealAudio files, animated GIFs, Shockwave files, etc. to Web pages.
  • Links and Image Maps details linking pages to internal and external destinations, creating image maps, previewing links, using the target window and extra HTML features.
  • Previewing and Exporting Web Pages covers viewing your work in a preferred browser and exporting QuarkXPress pages to Web formats.
