BeyondPress Features: Introduction

BeyondPress adds several interface features to QuarkXPress. Whether you decide to use WYSIWYG Authoring mode or list oriented Conversion mode to design and layout your pages for the web you will be working with the following palettes..

NOTE: All palettes except for the Export Progress Window can be accessed through a keyboard shortcut. These short cuts are editable via the Extensis>Edit key commands menu. For more information go to Keyboard ShortCuts.

1 The Document Content palette allows you to work in two separate modes -- Authoring and Document Conversion. Please refer to page 15 of the printed manual to determine which mode is right for your job.

Use Authoring mode to design Web pages just as you do other types of documents. In Authoring Mode, you can add, modify, and format the basic elements of a Web page in QuarkXPress and export it to HTML.

In Conversion Mode, you can modify and format individual text and image elements of an existing QuarkXPress document and export the page to HTML without changing the document.

2 The Elements palette lets you share Image, HTML, Media, and Form elements across multiple Web pages.

3 The Attributes Inspector dialog box lets you modify and format individual text, image, multimedia, or HTML elements in your pages while working in Authoring Mode.

4 The 13 BeyondPress Preferences panels let you create default settings for the format and export of Web pages in both modes.

5 The Export Progress Window gives you information about the export of your documents to HTML, including download times and export error messages.

6 Use of a Target Window to support linking between frames and browser windows.

7 Drag and Drop extends BeyondPress' functionality to work with other applications, including Adobe PageMill, Claris Home Page, and the Apple Finder.

8 Apple Events Support lets you automate Web page authoring tasks.

9 Character Mapping automatically converts many typographic symbols and characters to HTML equivalents.
