Setting Layout Preferences, Part II

If DHTML/CSS positioning is not selected, then you can control the alignment of Web pages in a browser window using the additional options in Layout Preferences. The options add attributes to the Table tags used by BeyondPress to approximate the layout of Web pages.

Alignment controls the horizontal position of Web pages as the layout is displayed in a Web browser.

Layout18

  • Standard adds no alignment attribute, and by default is read as left aligned.
  • Left aligns your page flush against the left edge of the browser window.
  • Center aligns a page horizontally in the middle of the browser window.
  • Right aligns a page flush against the right edge of the browser window.
  • Maximum Width controls how Web pages are drawn horizontally by browsers.

    Layout18a

  • Browser Determined lets Web pages flow to the full width of a browser window, depending how wide the window is opened.
  • Width of Document Items keeps the width of Web pages the same dimensions as they were placed in QuarkXPress, and no larger, regardless of how wide the browser window is opened.
  • Value lets you assign a specific width measurement, in points (pixels), for pages. Regardless of how large a user draws out their browser window, the width of items on the page will stay within the value you assign.

    Don't Allow Boxes to Shrink

    Shrink18

Checking Don't Allow Boxes to Shrink will insure the minimum size of the e text box objects on the QuarkXPress objects in the web page. Regardless of how little text may be in a text box, it will retain it's vertical spacing relative to the other objects on the Web page.

Checking Make White Box Backgrounds Transparent will insure that any text box with a white background will not be placed in a table cell with a background color on export.
