Adding Multimedia to Web Pages

BeyondPress lets you add sound, video, animated GIFs, Java applets, and other multimedia files to Web pages.

Before adding multimedia files to Web pages, note that their playback depends on your audience having the appropriate browser plug-ins.

Multimedia files (other than Java applets), such as RealAudio and Shockwave, are automatically added to a Web page's HTML code with BeyondPress using the "EMBED" tag. Attributes to the EMBED tag include SRC (source), HEIGHT, WIDTH, BORDER, HSPACE, and VSPACE. BeyondPress will add the SRC, HEIGHT, and WIDTH attributes automatically.

Java applets are added to HTML using the APPLET CODE tag, CODEBASE, HEIGHT, and WIDTH attributes.

Animated GIFs are added using the IMG SRC tag.

Parameters are special instructions you can send to plug-ins or to Java applets.

Parameters to QuickTime movies include:

* CONTROLLER -- The parameter CONTROLLER=FALSE will make the control bar of a media file, such as a QuickTime movie, invisible.

* HIDDEN -- When added to the EMBED tag, the parameter "HIDDEN" will hide the display box. This is useful if you want to embed a music track on a page to play in the background.

* AUTOPLAY -- Allows a movie to start playing as soon as enough information is downloaded. The actual parameter in this case is AUTOPLAY=TRUE.

* LOOP -- A parameter of LOOP=TRUE will cause a movie to play continuously.

To add multimedia files to Web pages:

1 Create a list of media files in the Elements palette (see Media Pane of the Elements Palette). To add a file to a Web page from the Elements palette, drag it onto the page. If you want to add a multimedia file to your Web page without changing your QuarkXPress document, drag the file onto the pasteboard.

2 Click AddBxBtn to add the file to the Content List. For more information see Adding New Elements to Web Pages.
