Deleting Elements and Suppressing Output

BeyondPress lets you selectively remove elements from the Content List, suppress the output of text or image elements, or suppress the output of a range of text. For example, you may want to delete extraneous graphics or suppress the output of text that is unnecessary on a Web page, but an important component of your QuarkXPress document.

Removing an element from the Content List

To remove any element from the Content List, select it and click Delete TrashBtn on the Document Content palette. Be careful -- you cannot Undo this action. You can shift-click or marquee to select multiple elements for deletion. An alert asks you to confirm a multiple-element deletion.

When you delete a Web Page folder, all the elements in the folder are removed. An alert asks you to confirm the Web Page deletion. When you delete a Text Chain, all elements anchored in the text are removed also. Removing elements from the Content List does not affect items in the QuarkXPress document.

Suppressing an entire text element

You can prevent a text element from being exported, but keep it in the Content List. To do this, select a Text Chain TxtChain or Anchored Text AnchorTxt in the Content List. Click the text element's HTML pop-up menu and choose Suppress Output. The contents of the box will not be exported.

Suppressing selected text

There are two ways to suppress the output of selected text:

* If you know you want to suppress all the text in a certain style sheet in the document, simply map that style sheet to Suppress Output in the Mapping Preferences dialog box.

* To suppress a small part of a Text Chain, create a Text Range (see Adding New Elements to a Web Page). Click the Text Range's HTML pop-up menu and choose Suppress Output.

* To suppress a large part of a Text Chain, you might want to segment the Text Chain (see Segmenting a Text Chain). You can delete or suppress one of the resulting Text Chains.
