Creating Hyperlinks and Image Maps BeyondPress provides several ways for you to add links to your Web pages. You can link text and/or images to another location within a document or to another address on the Web. Links from text can be marked in the QuarkXPress document for easy reference. If you are using Frames on your website BeyondPress also enables you to specify the Target window. For more information on Frames go to Frames and Target Information Image maps let you create multiple links from the same image, for example, an image on a home page can contain links to various pages within a site. You can specify client side and server side image maps. If you're linking to a variety of Web pages, BeyondPress stores the most frequently used addresses. You can also copy the address from a Web page that is open in your browser.
There are two types of links: relative links and direct links. In a relative link, the path to the file you are linking to is relative to the location of the source file. In a direct link, the path to the file you are linking to is another URL. Generally, you use relative links when you're creating links among your own Web pages and direct links when you're linking to other Web sites.
Set an Export Preference to specify that links to Web pages on your hard drive or network (which are assumed to be the pages on your Web site) are treated as relative links. Relative links can be tested in an exported Web page on your hard drive before you export the page to your Web site. If you don't have access to a mock-up of your Web site from your Macintosh, don't create relative links.
1 Open the Export Preferences dialog box (click Preferences
2 Check Relative URLs. 3 Click OK to close BeyondPress Preferences and save changes. 4 Do a preliminary export of the Web page so BeyondPress knows the exported page's destination. 5 Create external links after performing the preliminary export.
