New Feature Summary

BeyondPress 4.0 includes several new features which extend your ability to create Web pages and manage Web sites with QuarkXPress

Support for DHTML/CSS Positioning: BeyondPress 4.0 taps into the latestDynamic HTML technologies with the option of exporting web pages using DHTML/CSS positioning layers. This provides for absolute pixel-levelpositioning of objects on a page and it also means that objects in a layout can overlap, since each is positioned on its own "layer" within the document. What does this mean to a BeyondPress user? It's easier than ever to preserve layouts you design within QuarkXPress, even those that contain overlapping objects.

NOTE: DHTML/CSS requires at least Netscape Navigator 4 (or later) or Internet Explorer 4 (or later). If you are using earlier versions of these browsers, you should turn DHTML/CSS off in Layout Preferences.

For more information go to: Authoring:Setting DHTML Layout Preferences.

Redesigned Link Editor: The Link Destinations palette has been replacedwith an improved, multi-paned Link Editor. The new interface displays the HTML linking code being generated by BeyondPress as you set up new links.

Target Window field: This new field in the Link Editor allows you to establish links from one frame to another, or from one window to another via the Target command. Although BeyondPress does not automatically generate the <Frameset> code for you, it does acknowledge the fact that you may be incorporating the HTML files you have created within a Frame.

For more information, go to: Features: Frame and Target Information.

Extra HTML field: This new field in the Link Editor allows you to incorporate the dynamic linking features of JavaScript. Primarily the mouseon, mouseoff rollover settings.

For more information, go to:
Authoring:The Link Target Window and Extra HTML
Conversion: The Link Target Window and Extra HTML

Tool tips: Tool tip help has been added to all the buttons on the BeyondPress palettes.

Customizable keyboard shortcuts: The BeyondPress menu commands now appear under a new Extensis menu in QuarkXPress 4.0. From this menu, you can customize the keyboard shortcuts used to hide or show any of the BeyondPress palettes. This new menu also allows you easy access to any other Extensis products running in QuarkXPress 4.0.

For more information, go to: Features:Extensis Menu.

New Meta Tag & Browser Version Detection Tutorial: A new tutorial document shows you how you can add Meta Tags and a browser version detection Java scripts to your web pages - without writing any code.Using these ready-to-use scripts allows you to detect when visitors with DHTML-incompatible browsers visit your site - and automatically redirect them to alternative pages that don't contain DHTML.

Expanded Documentation: The new BeyondPress documentation includes a printed user's guide, with tutorials, plus this HTML-based BeyondPress Online reference manual. The current installation includes the wholeprinted manual in PDF form.
